I enjoyed this insightful post. I myself have lived in the PRC for many years and observe much the same things. Christianity in the West has become much too focused on the intellectual, to the neglect of the power of the Holy Spirit. I heard an impassioned plug recently for young people to attend a workshop on apologetics. The speaker urged young people to come and find out about the powerful weapon God has given us to share the gospel - apologetics. Wait a minute. What ever happened to the power of God? I don't think good arguments will win people to Christ. The real weapons we have are the Word of God and prayer. But prayer is on the decline in the West. Someone said that if the Holy Spirit were removed from the Church, 85% of church work would go on as usual. I think that number is now something over 90%, judging from attendance at church prayer meetings. We are perilously close to 2 Tim. 3:5 - "having a form of godliness but denying its power." It is time for the Church to wake up, get back to basics, and show the world the power of the One in whom we believe.

Wow! Fantastic insight. Sort of like what happened after World War II in Japan 65 years ago? Could this be a sign of societal evolution? Nah.

Very interesting analysis, Glen. Thanks.

Sounds as though you are having a very profitable and interesting time.

Are you teaching or learning or both?
